Urchin Software from Google (version 5)
– modules
Urchin 5 is packaged into several different modules so users may
select and pay for only the features and functionality they require.
Here we describe the different modules with the information you need
to select what is right for any situation. Once you have decided on
the modules you wish to purchase, you can go on to
order them.
If you already know what you wish to order, you can make your
selection here.

Urchin 5 base licence
The Urchin Base Module may be all that is needed for a medium-scale
installation. An entry-level Base Module Licence must be associated
with just a single log source (that is, the access logs of a single
web server) unless additional log source licences are added (see
reasons why below), in which case the Base Licence must be upgraded
to match the number of log sources.
The entry-level Base Module Licence includes the ability to define
up to 100 profiles.
Additional 100 Profile Pack
A Profile is a set of rules governing the processing of log files
and the creation of reports for one website or parts of it. It may
be thought of as a container or folder for a particular collection
of reports and is convenient if groups in your organisation are
required to have access to different collections of reports.
If your Urchin installation is required to support more than 100
profiles then it is necessary to purchase additional Profile Packs.
Each Profile Pack supports up to 100 additional profiles.
Load Balancing Module
Larger web sites are often served by more than one web-server in a
load-balanced configuration. This is a particular instance of when
Urchin must accommodate more than one log source. If one or more
profiles are set up for the analysis of a load-balanced site, an
upgrade to the license must be purchased, as mentioned under “Urchin
5 base licence”, above.
Because the use of a load balancing configuration is by far the most
common reason for the presence of multiple log sources, we use the
terminology “Load Balancing Module” to mean an upgrade of the Base
Licence to accommodate an additional log source. You must purchase
one Load-Balancing Module for each web server (log source) beyond
the first. Every profile gains the ability to process the data from
all the servers for which Load Balancing Modules have been
purchased.
E-commerce Reporting Module
The E-commerce Reporting Module contains the functionality to follow
visitors all the way to the point of purchase and actually measure
ROI relating to various aspects of a website and individual
marketing campaigns. In connection with a shopping cart, you can
analyze transactions and revenue by product and quantity. Revenue
can be segmented and reported by referrals, search terms and
domains. Buyers can be located and grouped by country, by state or
even city.
The module works with the common e-commerce Log Formats ELF2 and
ELF, or allows a custom format to be defined and used.
Campaign Tracking Module
The Urchin Campaign Tracking Module accurately tracks visitors from
a source – such as a search engine or a link in an email piece –
through to a conversion or transaction on your site. The CTM shows
which keywords, search engines, marketing campaigns and ad content
lead to conversions so that marketing spend can be effectively
targeted.
With the Urchin Campaign Tracking Module, you
gain the benefits of:
Multi-Session
Tracking – visitors can be tracked from lead to
conversion across multiple sessions
ROI Analysis –
the keywords that convert to purchases may be easily
identified so that your paid search expenditure can be accurately
targeted
Goal Conversion
– actual purchases and similar events can be
labelled as goals for verification and reporting
A/B Testing –
the CTM supports testing of alternative content to
identify which versions work in achieving goals
Day Parts Reporting
– reporting can show when your target audience
is away so that you can control the delivery of paid-search
advertising and avoid wasting money
Multi-Dimensional
Comparisons – performance comparisons can be made
across marketing campaigns, advertising channels, e-mail shots,
search engines, specific keywords, organic searches and more
